i agree with pachter that its a bad decision for nintendo to skip e3.

You and Patcher both dont understand what Nintendo is doing. Im pretty sure during E3 we will hardly even notice the difference from years past. The only thing is we wont be watching a press conference, well see Nintendo Directs. They will have smaller private press conferences for investors, and another one for gaming media showcasing the games. They will have a huge presence on the show floor, and we will see all those new amazing games we are expecting for E3 this year, coupled with the beginning of Nintendos real push to start selling the Wii U.

I suspect E3 is an incredibly expensive event to book places at. With Nintendo's current finances, I doubt they would want to spend so much money there.
