Why were so many people expecting much better graphics than this?

Wrong. The Xbox 360 launched for $300/$400, while the PS3 launched at $500/$600. And both were capable of the visuals seen in launch Wii U games.

While both were capable of the Wii U's graphic, both took them YEARS to even reach that level while the Wii U launched at the peak of the 360/PS3's graphics.

because people are graphics junkies (the word I would have said, I can't say on the forums) because they want them to be borderline hollywood movie graphics on their console when a game is simply a game. Nothing more

@Baha05

Not really, show me a launch game from the Wii U that looks as good as God of War 3 or Uncharted 3

Would have to look up footage for those games, however point being is that Wii U is pulling off graphics on par with late PS3/360, not launch 360/PS3

I think people were expecting what the haters state "real next gen" console gaming. None of which the Wii U has shown yet, besides running ports of PS3/360 games. Also Mario games dont look high graphically, there's only co much graphics you can do for the cartoony feel of the Mario franchises. They could probably do more for Zelda unless they're goong for the cartoony style of Wind Walker with "HD" graphics. Most of Nintendo's games arent reliant on heavy graphics besides probably Metroid if Nintendo wants/dares to push it past the "T" rating.

Because a system released 7 years later for a similar launch price should have notably more powerful hardware and therefor, offer better visual quality.

Xbox launched at some $400-500 and PS3 launched at $600. Neither of them could at the time do graphics like the Wii U or their later games.

Not to mention, AGAIN! That between $50-$80 of the wii U price is going towards the game pad.
In other words, invested towards other capabilities besides graphics.

Both the launch Xbox 360/PS3 and late Xbox 360/PS3 have identical hardware performance (aside from storage medium).

Yes but you're missing the point, that is AT LAUNCH, 360 and PS3 games did not look like they do now. The graphical capabilities as well as how games handled had improved overtime.

Right, exactly, so it doesn't make sense to compare games released 6-7 years ago to games released today.
