A cheap wall projector and laptop touchpad are not revolutionary either.

All video games and video game systems are, by definition of the English language, "gimmicks".

Hate the Kinect and the motion plus. I Own neither of them. The wii opened my eyes to how terrible Motion control is in games. Zelda, one of my favorite series over, has never given me MORE joy by using motion controls. No, a game doesn't need to be gimmicky. In fact the game shouldn't be.

The only game that I Love motion controls is Wii Fit, because I'm doing the motion and losing pounds.

HD Graphics. **HUGE** gimmick back in 2005 which ultimately almost crashed the entire industry due to how expensive they made development. Also, games still played the same, meaning they weren't actually improved at all. Yet to this day, lots of alleged gamers still gush about how great they are.

Except when talking about Nintendo's HD console, that is. Then, suddenly, it becomes something to sneer about.

this wasnt a good example at all. a gimmick is something that wont stick, and has limited appeal. HD gaming is what the future was going to be.

so again anyone else with an example?

Utterly wrong. A gimmick is a feature deliberately meant to draw consumers' attention. It has nothing to do with limited appeal or lasting power. By the real definition of the word, HD graphics were a huge gimmick.
