Is it possible to install an External HDD to your Wii U...

... if it is USB powered without using a Y cable?

Really wanna download some games from the store on my White Wii U, but I don't really have any space left, and I don't have a Y cable anywhere around my house, and only have an USB Powered HDD. Is there any way I can format it without having to use a Y cable?

As long as it has its own power supply, yes.

As I said, it is USB powered, so it doesn't have it's own power supply :(

Have you tried Nintendo.com? It's pretty helpful for these kinds of questions.

Sometimes, it really depends upon the HDD.

I have a simpletech 120gb HDD, and when I try to format it on the Wii U it starts making a clicking noise, probably from turning on and off constantly due to the low amount of power being sent from a single Wii U USB port, is there any way I can format it before I plug it into the console? It doesn't seem to be working at all, and I really don't want to go out to get a Y cable just to plug this in

Thanks for the advice, but I live in Brazil and am having a really hard time finding anywhere that will sell me a Y-Cable, that's why I really wanted to know if there was some other way. Really sucks :(
