Used Game Fees, publishers' answer to "Online Passes??"

#1JirynPosted 5/21/2013 1:08:41 PM
Remember a week ago when EA said they were dropping "Online Passes"

Well, I think we now know why.
First thing out of Microsoft's mouth was they partnered with EA.. but never really said what for.

I think we know now, and this "Used Game Fee" feels like the evolution of their "Online Pass" bullcrap.

However, I may be seeing connections where there aren't any.. your thoughts?

(Microsoft's Used Fee can be read about here
http://kotaku.com/the-xbox-is-not-always-online-but-seems-to-block-used-509077987

)

The reason this is posted here is not to update people on said fee is not to bash Microsoft or EA but to show what to expect "NEXT" honestly.

We were all skeptical as to why EA dropped their FEE and now we know. How long till other consoles institute this?

Did Nintendo flat-out deny EA even a chance of doing this and that's why they've publicly blasted the system?

So what? PC games have been doing this for years with CD Keys. It's new to consoles for sure, but not to gaming.

I don't think devs should get a single penny of used game sales. They got their money from the initial sale and that's all they are entitled to. If they don't like it then they should stop making games.

Microsoft says it will "enable customers to trade in and resell games."

Because the 2nd hand market hasnt existed before. lol

True, but even then you can sell used games without an additional fee.
Even Steam was forced to allow you to resell used games in Europe, well now there is a double fee on console games.

Even worse, one of the strengths of consoles was two people using the same system to play a game but on different accounts.
That may be all but dead, unless the second person pays a fee, so no more splitting the cost of a game etc.

So will the price of Xbox One games dramatically drop faster like PC games do?

Do you have proof? Because from what I can tell, it didn't kill the PC market, so why would consoles be different? Just take the console to your friend's place. My friend and I did that all the time when he had an Xbox and I had a GameCube.

Because PC games are generally cheaper than console games.
