A backwards-compatible home console with no used game lockout of any sort?

I suspect that this is one of the last of its kind - if there's another console generation after this, you won't see that. Hell, it might be even an all-digital console, if you can imagine it. Who knows?

Probably. Sony is the deciding factor for the new gen and where it goes. At E3, or sometime after, they can either announce all the same "locked" features of the Xbox One, or they can go against Microsoft entirely and steal this generation.

Either way it goes however, it's only a temporary thing. Eventually in the tech industry, manufacturers and service providers will OWN their content. Everyone will simply borrow it. I don't think the gaming community will stand against it in the long run.

I sure hope not. If it is, it'll be the last console I buy. I would hope Nintendo isn't as stupid as Microsoft & Sony, though.

Five years from now, Nintendo will roll out the Wii See U, and have the BC stripped out and be their "next-gen'" version of what the PS4/XOne is now.

Well the Wii was the first backwards compatible Nintendo non portable.

I doubt it though, but I expect their next handheld and their next console to be the same thing, or at-least play the same games.

Last of its kind? You mean the awkward "I'm 'same-gen' with systems that are going to blow me away, and 'next-gen' compared to 6-year old systems that I'm proud to be more powerful than" syndrome? Let's hope so!
