If the wii-u fails will Nintendo stay in the console market?

The gamecube was a relative failure, but they still decided to go ahead and make the wii.

The wii was an example that proved high attach rate doesn't translate to more good exclusives. Wii had xenoblade, red steel 2, goldeneye(which eventually became cross-platform), monster hunter tri and a few others but not many good third party exclusives. Now the first party exclusives nobody questions, those are going to be there and many will buy a wii-u just for those, but in order for this to be a successful console there needs to be third party exclusives that are good. The ps2's library is far deeper than the wii's and I don't know why really.

Just a few things though.

-The wii-u's controller isn't going to grab the casual market ever
- The wii-u's controller isn't going to draw very many developers to making games for the wii-u
- The production costs of xboxone and ps4 titles could prove so high that many developers stick with wii-u, but this didn't happen with the wii so I would be skeptical.

I would suggest that Nintendo come up with new IPs and take a gamble. The last big ones they came up with were pikmin and animal crossing. So I think Nintendo should push this system with a new exclusive IP catered to the hardcore market that people just can't deny is worth buying the system for. Also, a Zelda RPG would help sales a lot.

They should also use the money they've got to buy exclusives.

Microsoft has lost touch. Exclusives sell consoles first and foremost when it comes to the hardcore market, quality of the online service and other doodads secondary. The only reason the 360 did so well is that it had so many exclusives in the first half of its lifespan.

Right now the wii-u only has one exclusive I'm interested in, and that's New Super Mario Bros. U. It's good that the system has Mass Effect 3, Assassins Creed, and Arkham City and whatnot but I've already played those games on my 360.

So the reason I'd buy the console right now (which I may down the road) is NSMBU. Exclusives sell consoles.

Had a Street Fighter signature for four years, but Crapcom doesn't deserve such recognition anymore.

tl;dr
no one cares what you have to say, and you probably won't end up buying a wii u, so you can leave and go to the ps4 board.

gamecube was not a failure

Gamecube was far from failure so immediately this thread is fail. However, IF (which it wont) the Wii U fails this will not be Nintendo's last console. They have already begun working on the next system. Besides that they learn and move forward. They don't quit and give up because of low sales. See 3DS turn around and soon to be Wii U turn around.

Some Ideas to sell this console. Listen up Nintendo.

- A pokemon mmorpg
- Resurrect the golden era of JRPGs (so a whole bunch of xenoblades)
- Good quality porn games (this has never been done and would be as big as wiisports if done correctly, the question is how, and that I can't answer)

The biggest factor would be the pokemon mmorpg. If Nintendo tried they could eclipse world of warcraft in popularity.

Actually screw porn games. There's no gameplay potential. However I would like to see more sexual content in video games in general across all platforms in the future.
