Would you play a Nintendo MOBA? (League of Legends is a Moba) - Results (80 votes)
Yes! A LoL/DOTA style game with Jigglypuff, Marth, Ness, and Mario as Champions? Heck yeah!

I doubt they can do a good MOBA on the Wii-U, but they could surprise me

I would play it, but if current MOBAs are any indication* then it would have to follow a free-to-play model, which unfortunately translates into pay-to-win more often than not.

I like the idea, but it won't happen.

* (Awesomenauts bombed on XBLA, and did well on PS3 only because it was included with PS+. Both versions failed to get more than a single update patch due to the fees being too high relative to sales. Guardians of Middle Earth on XBLA also is struggling, though in that game's case you could blame its bad netcode.)

We really don't need more MOBA's. Regardless MOBA's really just don't work on consoles.

I can't think of a single MOBA that has any sort of pay-to-win model.

I still don't rightfully know what a MOBA is. Thought I figured it out but apparently I was wrong.

Awesomenauts didn't get any further patches because their publisher filed for bankruptcy. Steam doesn't require a publisher for release like Sony and Microsoft do, so Ronimo wasn't tied down by red tape on PC.

Remind me what that stands for and what sort of game that would be? I seem to remember hearing about it before and not liking the sound of it (and knowing that it definitely wasn't for me), but I forget what exactly it was. Some sort of MMO with a twist... or something? The part that stuck out the most in what I heard about it was that the fanbase for that type of game is supposed to be extremely obnoxious and overly competitive in the worst way possible.

League of Legends, assuming you're not going to gimp yourself for the first who-knows-how-many hours of gameplay. Characters, runes, rune pages...have fun buying all the relevant ones by Lv30.

Interesting, but I recall reading from a forum sticky on the Awesomenauts' forum that it had more to do with the patch cost on those consoles: http://www.awesomenauts.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=6781

Admittedly, it mentions both points.

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena.

Usually it involves team vs team play (3v3 or 5v5 being most common), each player controls one unit that can level up and gain money for equipment over time, and faster by getting kills. Typically there are AI minions that periodically spawn for each team, and "last hitting" them for a kill grants some gold while killing a player earns more gold for the entire team. Generally the goal is to kill towers that are defending the enemy base, and then the base itself. Minions take much lower damage from these towers than you do, so its often in your best interest to escort minions to enemy towers, if you can.

Examples: DotA mod for Warcraft 3, DotA 2 (PC), League of Legends (PC), HoN (PC), Awesomenauts (PS3/360), Guardians of Middle Earth (360/?)

Everything gameplay related is bought entirely with in-game rewards. You can't even BUY runes with real money, everything that's bought with real money is cosmetic or convenience and will not in any way give you an advantage over other players. Calling League of Legends a pay to win game is simply ridiculous.
