Is Super Mario 3D World the same game as the 3ds one?

Super Mario 3D World cannot be the same as the one on the 3DS, because there's no such game as Super Mario 3D World on the 3DS.

What's different about it?

-Frog suit returns
-Clear warp pipes that you can control your direction in
-Dinosaur thing you can ride across water on
-Cat suit
-Some levels seem to have alternate paths traversable only with the catsuit
-Gamepad can reveal invisible things and immobilize enemies
-Ice skating Kuribo shoes
-Levels seem more expansive
-Multiple characters with different abilites
-Possbily some sort of new mode/bonus level thing with the toad brigade captian

You forgot to mention.... new music (of course, there are a few returning themes, e.g. the Slider theme, which sounds like the one from Super Mario Galaxy 2), however, keep in mind, that was a demo, and like how the demo of Super Mario 3D Land had Super Mario Galaxy 2's boss music, the final game had a new boss theme.

Did he even watch the trailer?

Would it make a difference? The trailer sucked, it did not do the game any justice whatsoever.

It's part of the 3D series of games, which was started with Super Mario 3D Land. It's a different game, just as New Super Mario Bros. U is a different game than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

The same thing happened with Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

There were screenshots CLEARLY showing new parts never seen in a previous game. And people were still like "OMG it's a port".

Yeah, "It IS a port", not "Is it a port", note the order of the first two words. People were claiming, not asking.

I don't know what's worse. People asking if a game is a port, or claiming that it is a port, despite the screenshots and videos of the gameplay demo clearly showing otherwise

Unless I'm mistaken... this wasn't in Super Mario 3D Land:
