Nintendo needs to learn from Sony when it comes to offering old content.

I think we can all agree that Nintendo's handling of the VIrtual console is terrible across all of their consoles that support it. We're lucky if we even get 60 VC games a year not counting VC launches on the Wii/WiiU/3ds.

Meanwhile, Sony offers a bunch of Ps1 and psp games for purchase. They sell for prices similar to what Nintendo sells their VC games for. Thanks to cross buy, you only need to buy a game once before you can play it on both your Vita and ps3. And while there are some flaws (being completely unable to buy some games on Vita if you don't own a ps3. Good games missing from ps1 classics), I have to admit that Sony knows how to handle their old games very well.

Compare this to what Nintendo is doing with the VC and it's clear that they could learn a thing or two. Even if they don't like paying attention to what other companies are doing.

By the way, if anyone wants to make an extremely predictable post to make fun of the topic title, then at least make it funny.

You know people complained about the PlayStation Shop for a long time too, right? They didn't magically have all those hit games up day one.

The PSN Store and the VC launched in 2006 with the Wii launching around the same time period. Despite launching at the same time period, you can still compare the Ps1 classics to the Wii VC catalog and still see the difference. If the Wii VC had so many issues, then I think it's fear to believe that the WiiU VC will as well.

If there is ONE company nintendo should not learn from, it would be sony.

Nintendo should price their games a little lower and they should release at a higher frequency, I agree. But Sony hardly releases as much as you say they do. The Wii VC has a much higher number of games available than Sony does with their PS1 and PS2 Classics.

Alright, I have to admit that this pretty stupid. Especially for FF III.

I've got no serious qualms about the release itinerary. It would be foolish to splash a ton of games out on day one and just have them sit there. This way, Nintendo can build hype and spread word-of-mouth around individual releases. My only problem with Virtual Console is the lack of cross buy. I hate that my Wii, Wii U and 3DS VC games are all separate things. It should be 'buy once, play everywhere', perhaps with optional cloud saves to continue a game on the road, from my 3DS. Instead, Nintendo tries to resell the same games on each new console. This annoys me greatly. I'd also like a universal account system, but if Nintendo didn't have that in November 2012 with the launch of the Wii U, I kinda doubt they ever will.

Lack of cross-buy is a big issue for Nintendo. But another is there cost.

$5 for a NES Game? Are you kidding me?

5 bucks for an NES game isn't really the issue. $5 for every NES game is the real problem here. Earthbound isn't the first time they've shown that they were fine with upping the price on high profile titles. Why make $5 the baseline for even the most obscure and shallow games?
