Do you think Earthbound will get the Super Mario RPG treatment?

I remember back in 2008, many wanted to play Super Mario RPG and hype for that game was through the roof. We had Rawest Forest on Youtube and rumours of Geno in Smash Bros that got people going nuts trying to find a cartridge.

Nowadays, I notice people being unafraid to throw the game under the bus, be more objective in criticism, and/or pretty much ignore it. Do you think Earthbound will get the same treatment? I mean there's creepy Giygas videos everywhere online, more Smash Bros hype, and other videos featuring the game adding to the hype.

I'm expecting it to get the same treatment. I own a cartridge of the game and bought it for $70 back in 2009. It wasn't the best RPG I played and I know that some stuff in it will turn gamers off such as limited inventory, lack of character visuals in battle, etc.

Anyone else expecting the same?

A game about nothing... For some reason a "Seinfeld" game wouldn't work for me... or anyone else for that matter.

I dunno what you're talking about. Mario RPG has always been awesome. I hope they remake it with sharper textures for 3DS. Would be cool if they threw in some more post game content too.

Its already getting that treatment. Have you not seen the topics abouthow Earthbound sucks because you "cant see your party members in battle"?

You know the gaming industry is **** when the biggest announcement is that a console can play used games and won't totally screw you over.

Actually, Super Mario RPG was the first RPG I played and probably my favourite due to nostalgia. I can admit that games like Chrono Trigger or Tales of Symphonia being objectively better though.

I still appreciate Earthbound though, but see very few liking it after this release. I know it's a niche game at heart.

currently it's getting FF7 treatment, in that people praise it and love it, and the new kids can't see why since it's on a 90's console and doesn't have current gen graphics or fast gameplay.

so immediately it gets classed as generic boring slow overrated RPG trash.

If you see more cases of it being hated on, it's more than likely due to it being played by more people. For years, the vast majority of people familiar with the series were those invested in it - fans. Now with its rerelease, it's essentially gone public again. Regarding a lack of character visuals, I personally love it, but petty people give it a lot of flack (See: SMT IV, Etrian Odyssey).

very well put.

it's just a shame that given its praise over the years, it experiences what FF7 experiences. so instead of people playing it and being like, "oh, i guess i don't like this game," they're quicker to jump to, "why do people like this game so much!? it sucks!"

^ Exactly. In the realm of gaming, if someone doesn't like a game, it's instantly designated as "crap", regardless of whether the game is of objective quality or not, nor can they view it in the context of its time if it seems too dated for their tastes. Ah well. I like Mother. <.<

I highly agree with that top statement regarding more people playing it. I just dislike how some people are on bandwagons just from seeing footage and proclaiming "best game ever!" It isn't. I wouldn't even say so for any of the games in my top 50 with games like A Link to the Past and Chrono Trigger. I both hope for more objective views of this game and some new fans to love it on its own merits and not based on the culture the game has garnered.

I'd say wait until the next "best game ever" (could be anything for Wii U out by December) to start getting more objective views.
