Apparently, Nintendo Is Refusing Japanese Indie Developers

Don't know if this was posted already but just in case http://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-confirms-that-the-company-isnt-currently-accepting-japanese-indies/

“The policy in question is the decision of Nintendo’s department responsible for licensing activities in each region, and the licensing department of Nintendo is currently not accepting subject applications from individuals in Japan.”

Keyword currently meaning that in the near future Nintendo could possibly let them release games on the eshop.

The question is why not let them release them right now.

It will be worked out and people will forget all about this.

And just how many indie games do we see from Japanese developers on the Xbox 360 and PS3? Or even the upcoming Xbox One and PS4? I think it may have more to do with laws regarding indie development on consoles, rather than just Nintendo being anal.

When you read that you should have things come to mind: currently, immediate, not right now, possibly future, down the road etc, etc. What are their plans for Japanese devs? There is definitely more story here. But no, page hits and fanning the flames of console wars are more important.

The gaming media is just as guilty in harming the game industry as the publishers themselves.

It's lazy, and all the websites are guilty of it. Glad these people don't actually work in real news or our news industry could be even worse then it is now.

Nintendo simply is behind the times. They were behind the times on HD and Online capabilities last gen, and they will continue to be behind the times on numerous things this gen as well.

Why is "Behind the Times" a bad thing? Do you always buy the latest and greatest things at the most expensive prices?

I think we're confusing "behind the times" with "smart."

Microsoft seems to be the go-to company for "state of the art" and "innovation with online", but they've not once made a profit from their game division-- is that financially intelligent? No. So Nintendo doesn't do that. Sony is 6 bill in the hole, can Nitnendo afford that? No.

They do what they feel makes things the most fun. No online for Mario U or Pikmin? That's fine, they're built around the single player experience, or the local co-op. Mario Kart Wii? Build around online offerings. Every offline feature was enhanced by the online offerings. Offline Time Trials prepped you for online leaderboards, or you could race downloaded ghosts, Grand Prix unlocked more online content, or allowed you to improve your online card for people to see.

Nintendo uses features when it's possible to get the most out of it. When they have online, they try their darndest to make it robust and enriching. If they tack it on, we get a Smash Bros. Brawl.

Nintendo can't just blow money on making every damn game they make have online. They do what they feel will be successful. Wii was a collosal success, which shows that people weren't interested in HD, and that there's a market for everyone. Wii U is now HD, as the HD TV is now in most homes, and the Wii's SD Cables can be used for the Wii U for those who don't have it.

They know what they're doing. Why are they constantly the target of ridicule by so many people?

It will be worked out and people will forget all about this.

And then Nintendo will do their next obviously stupid decision that the fanboys will rush to defend.
