Why are you people arguing AGAINST online multiplayer?

Because some Nintendo fans just want to support Nintendo's decision.

@Not necessarily talking about people here but another forum I go to people supported Nintendo's decision on not having a account system or adding online co-op on SM3D World.

In general. Sometimes Nintendo gets it right. Every game with local MP should have online as well. NSMBU would be so fun online.

I feel most co-op games are a nightmare online unless you play them with people you know well (if you're actually expecting to make some progress), because all that can usually be found are trolls and just overall poor teammates (and I'm not even talking about new players with no experience, just people who don't know/don't care about how to play as a team)

I agree with OP 100%. I am not someone to ask for multiplayer with most of my games but I just never understood why when devs chose to include local multiplayer they dont just add the few extra lines of code to include an online mode. Sure I have friends with which I can play locally, but sometimes those friends arent around and id still like to play the multiplayer. Its not like the game loses quality just by adding a bit to the already included multiplayer.

Sure some games dont need it (like SM3DW were its really about the local multiplayer) but Pikmin 3 (from what ive seen) just seems perfectly suited for an online mode. And even though Im not specialist but I doubt that maintaining a few servers to let people people play a game they have been promoting for such a long time now is that expensive (at least when compared to the profit they make off their games).

Im not saying I need online. Some games lend themselves to multiplayer and others dont, but if you are going to add some multiplayer component why not go the extra mile? When people say how they are "fine" with this game not having it and how its not something theyd expect from game X then that always just sounds to me like the kid at school who would say "hey look, I only NEED a D to pass the class, so why bother?". Sure we grew up without online in our games (at least I dont recall my SNES having any) but the times have changed and to a certain degree you cannot judge games solely on how they were 15+ years ago. Times change, and so should our standards of what we expect from games.

Problem is, it's not this easy (if it was, then I'd also agree with all of you) I'm sure it takes more than just a few extra lines, since they have to consider other things such as lag. Also, a lot games that focus too much on online multiplayer, are neglected in all other aspects... maybe developers get lazy knowing that the only thing people who buy the game will see is the online mode, and in most cases they're right (see CoD)

The exception are several Nintendo games, but even in those, I have the feeling that If everything was unlocked on Brawl or MKW from the start, a lot of people wouldn't even touch the single player modes except for achievements and such... and maybe not even for that.

Local >>>>> Online Any day of the week.

But really, online isn't needed in every game, not even multiplayer is needed in every game. The multiplayer in Galaxy was pointless really, it was fine being single player, as is any Mario adventure game. Sure many games these days have online multiplayer, and many are crap and/or copy cats of other superior games. Even with a PS3 and 360, most of my gaming is done offline. Hell, I'm playing the SNES right now even.

doesnt matter. this is a problem inherent in any and every online game.

I'm aware there are games that doesn't need any kind of multiplayer at all, if that was your point. What I meant was that just because a game has local multiplayer, doesn't need to have online too, especially since it wouldn't work as well with some games.

why wouldnt it work well? it would just be the local multiplayer only online. there is no difference.

I've been playing since the 80's and I'm used to having friends (you know... people in the flesh and not XxXRoxxorsXxX) over to enjoy a good mutliplayer game with a beer. Online often is an excuse for less playtime just for the sake of "hey look!!! you can play online multiplayer"

Well I'm sorry but I'll pass and my friends do as well. Some game don't need multiplayer features at all and that's it. If people want mutliplayer so bad then go buy a fighting game and enjoy yourselves but stop asking for mutliplayer everywhere...

So play with your friends? There needs to be online implemented more on Nintendo consoles please Nintendo. I hope it's not just a Mario pipe dream of mine.

^ This guy gets it. I feel the same way. Not every games needs multiplayer. Theres COD for that. A great single player exp will always be 10x better then any multiplayer exp. Imagine Zelda with multiplayer in it...lol.
