Does atlus have talented developers?

Serious topic. Does atlus have talented developers like that monolith soft guy who worked at squaresoft?

If not, then it would be pointless buying atlus for the ips because nintendo is already sitting on tons of unused ips.

of course! a talented developer could not have dreamed to have made the persona series or the main shin megami tensei. but if you're looking for an untalented developer then take a gander at this link

We don't need a discussion of semantics into this.

no you do because ID is the perfect example Carmack is a development genius but because hte rest of his team was pretty much awful he had them scrap 2 years worth of work on Doom 4 because it was bad and not what he wanted

Carmack doesn't develop or play games, he creates and optimizes engines. Carmack is neither a mapper nor modeler, he does not create the game world. He gives the developers the power and tools to create the game.

Carmack also didnt scap DOOM 4 either, as he isnt in charge, but he was on board with starting over. To our knowledge, he didnt even work on it, I dont even know how he could have found time TBH. After RAGE was released, Bethesda looked at what they had and said none of it is going into the final game because it wasnt in the best interests of Bethesda, id Software and the DOOM franchise to release a game that was essentially Wolfenstein 2009.

They kept their most talented developers, laid off the ones that were creating problems and shut down every project that wasnt DOOM 4. No more giant expansion pack to RAGE, no more mobile releases, no more QUAKE 5, just DOOM 4. Their goal is to make a game with the impact of Metroid Prime, not a Wolfenstein 2009.

Ironically, when you look at Metroid Prime's design, it has far more in common with DOOM than Call of Duty or any of the other modern FPS games that really have gone completely backwards in every single aspect of the genre. Less weapons, smaller levels, no exploration, less puzzles, no music, tons of story telling and cinema. That is not DOOM, that is not Metroid Prime.

I am really curious to see what they come up with and what id Tech 5 will look like by then. Wolfenstein: The New Order seems to be tailored to casuals that want a more retro FPS experience, without losing modern aspects of the genre. The Evil Within is a grand tech demo, showing off graphics, gameplay, story, atmosphere and variety. It should be pretty good. RAGE was like a demo of the engine. Instead of baking their game assets for PC, for a timeless visual experience like DOOM, QUAKE, DOOM 3 and Crysis, they baked them for consoles. The gameplay and story was standard modern boringness so we were left with a solid title, but nothing mind-blowing in any way. If they did with DOOM 3 what they did with RAGE, the game would have looked no better than than XBOX version on PC, probably worse.

Maybe some day their work on RAGE will be released, but probably not since their is no market for it. Right now, they are focusing on the gameplay and design of DOOM. Hopefully they dont cut corners on the visual side of things like they did with RAGE, but we dont even know if the next-gen consoles will be able to handle the original assets of the game. Hopefully the console release is big enough to where they can release a real PC version of the game on PCs.

And as far as Atlus concerned, they have potential, but right now their games only appeal to a small market worldwide and they have not proven they can get out of their stereotype of pure japan made games for hardcore gamers.

Can you visualize Atlus developing a Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid or Zelda game if Nintendo would allow them to? Probably not.

Can you visualize Monolith making a main Final Fantasy entry or Pokemon RPG if allowed to. Probably.

Can you visualize Retro making a Metroid, Donkey Kong.... see?

if Nintendo is going to be a development studio or publisher they are going to do it for one of two reasons. Either because they can make Nintendo games or because they have IPs that would fit well as Nintendo exclusives. The developer would also have to be able to make high quality, solid and fluid titles. Atlus may be able to make high quality, solid titles but they havent proven they can hit the audience or develop titles that Nintendo would need them to.

If Nintendo is going to buy developers, they are going to be quality developers that can make a variety of titles in both gameplay and design. Platinum, maybe Rocksteady and smaller companies like Treasure and maybe Chair Entertainment(imagine what those guys could accomplish if they were merged into one and had a big budget). If they are going to buy publishers, they are going to buy ones like Sega and Hudson(which they passed on), but their development teams blow.
