What happens when Miyamoto retires?

Somebody better will step up and fill his shoes. There's always somebody better out there than you, always. Hell, when Sr. Isaac Newton was working on developing calculus, Gauss was already on his heels.

They'll clone him. When the clone dies, they'll make a new one.

Miyamoto has not been developing these games alone. There have been people high up with him developing these games. Takashi Tezuka, for example, is the head of Nintendo's EAD with Miyamoto. Summing up his credits, he has been-

(some of these are obviously shared with others, like Miyamoto)
- Producer of Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda: Wind Waker, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Pikmin 2, New Super Mario Bros, New SMB Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Super Mario 3D Land, New SMB2
- Director of SMB3, SMW, SMW2: Yoshi's Island
- Director of The Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening
- Assistant Director of SMB1, SM64
- Game Designer for SMB1, SMB2 Lost Levels, SMB3
- Game Designer for the original Zelda, BS Zelda (Satellaview)
- Supervisor for Star Fox 64, Zelda: OOT, Mario Golf N64, Majora's Mask, Oracle of Seasons/Ages, The Minish Cap, Four Swords Adventures.

Tezuka is the logical successor to Miyamoto.

Nintendo will likely see a bunch of innovation at that point. Miyamoto has a lot of good ideas, but being modern and getting with the times aren't some of them.

Being modern and in the times = innovative?

Nobody will ever have the legacy or influence that Miyamoto had ever again.

But Miyamoto made his name in gaming's early days when there was so much new to create. If Miyamoto didn't make Mario, somebody else would have.

Even Super Mario 64, owes heavily to the work of Argonaut on a Yoshi platformer that Nintendo refused to green light, but Miyamoto pinched ideas from it and made SM64. Argonaut then went to Sony and turned the Yoshi platformer into Croc.

Miyamoto is the most influential man in the industries history, but it's been a long time since any game Miyamoto directed, or piece of Nintendo hardware really captured my imagination.Miyamoto is no longer the most creative, talented or influential man in the history. He's not the creative force he once was, and honestly, I don't think it will make much difference.

Leibniz & Newton were developing calculus separately. Newton gets all of the credit because he was English and the European countries were in a pissing match over big discoveries. An English astronomical society in the mid 1800s tried to claim the discovery of Neptune for themselves (it was discovered by a German with a Frenchman's calculations). Old Encyclopedia Brittanicas are rife with being partisan when it comes to Britain vs. France, Germany, even in matters like sports history. Saw this once as my parents have an old collection of encyclopedias. Always makes me laugh when people criticize Wikipedia and hold up Encyclopedia Brittanica even though some studies found the two have a similar error/inaccuracy rate.

We've gotten New Super Mario Bros and Mega Man 9 & 10, is it not time for the sequel to Donkey Kong Jr. Math? Donkey Kong Jr. Calculus!
