Take Cecil in Welcome to Night Vale, he's just some guy hosting a radio show who happens to be gay, outside of the episodes where he talks about his love interest you wouldn't even guess he was gay. An example of a good character who just happens to prefer men.

Contrast with how alot of gay characters I've seen tend to be flamboyant or otherwise have it be a large part of the character instead of just some minor thing, you know, like how in most situations a character being straight won't matter.

Basically don't make it so you can tell just by looking at them that they're gay and don't draw attention to it any more then you would draw attention to the other characters being straight. It's not like most of the time it will matter. At all.
