I got this idea from this topic http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/631516-wii-u/66989731

Perhaps the gamepad is being a disadvantage for local co-op because of the uneven controller options (when using unique gameplay with the gamepad), so, when do you think Nintendo will enable the use of 2 gamepads on one console?

I honestly thought that E3 was the moment for it, now it seems to me a little rushed to think about this holidays, and put the gamepad on the market at $140 USD doesn't seem like a good financial idea if it's not in a holiday, so I think we will have to wait until holidays 2014

I'm going to bump by saying that I'm not sure how well/bad could turn out for Nintendo if they apply the 2nd gamepad by 2014, but could it serve as a draw in the public's atention?

Historically speaking, we may see the support of multiple gampads be the defining feature of the WiiU. That being said, I think the sooner its introduced the better. A console's lifespan is only so long and if this is to be a major feature of the console, they can't wait too long to reap it's benefits before people fail to care.
