Was Rayman Origins the best 2D platformer since Super Mario World?

Best since Sonic & Knuckles.

Donkey Kong Country Returns, LittleBigPlanet, and Rayman Origins share the role.

I've heard LittleBigPlanet and Rayman: Origins are the best 2D platformers ever to date.

This is true. Nothing Nintendo has is as good as these two.

Rayman Origins isn't that great. Fun for 1 playthrough, but after that you realize there just isn't much gameplay freedom. You can't really play through levels in different ways, it's always the same experience. Speedrunning isn't about figuring out ways to go through the level faster in that game, it's about doing the same as doing what you did to get through the level in the first time, but faster.

There's no need to find an optimal path, there only is 1 path.

And LittleBigPlanet games have atrocious platforming mechanics. They're fairly good games, but far from great.

In SA2, it's Super Sonic and Hyper Shadow.

Honestly, Rayman Origins is probably the best platformer I've ever played. The only platformer that can beat that is Rayman Legends.

Opinions are not truths, no matter how many times you say they are.

LBP is great, so is Rayman. They both offer something different to lets say NSMB or Megaman or DKC, but to say that it is a truth that one is better than the other is just not right.

I personally feel that DKC is one of the best 2D platformers I have ever played. But that is just my opinion on it.

LBP offers something different, but I don't personally think it is the best "2D" platformer ever to date... That would not be something I consider it to be, but to each their own.

My vote would go to DKC1 and 3 along with NSMBU (it is leagues better than the rest) and SMW of course would be on the list. Another 2D game that is fun is Rayman Origins, that was a lot of fun as well. Each offer something unique and fun about it, some are easier than others and some offer a bit more replayablity, but they are all pretty great if you are into that sort of thing.

lolwut

Rayman games are terrible & generic. It's like they escaped from the SNES era when western companies would come up with all sorts of dumb characters and settings for their <insert popular game> rip-off games.

Just like they currently do with shooters.

Origins is probably the best platformer I've ever played, amazing OST, beautiful art style, and quick smooth gameplay.

Haha of course not.
That would be Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Origins was... okay, I guess, but nothing spectacular.

Unfortunately, I'd always edge it out as Origins > Returns > LBP. Returns had motion controls, for heaven's sakes.
