If you want it just to play it and nothing else and are short on cash then get the DLC. If you hate digital and want something for the shelf or to collect then get physical.

I got both. Physical will never be opened in case it is a limited run and will be worth something one day.

That being said, I played through the DLC and loved it. I thought it was better than NSMBU. The levels are shorter but they are also harder. And since they are shorter they don't really get frustrating. Definitely worth $20 as DLC for sure.

I ordered it the other day as I don't have NSMBU(I believe you need it to play the digital one), and from what I read the disk is stand alone

I don't really think it is. For what it is, it's $5 more expensive digitally than most standalone platformers released on the eShop / XBLA / PSN. It's a hard sale at $30 unless you don't have NSMBU or just like physical media; I don't think it's worth $30 though.

Price is just about the only negative thing I have to say about it though. It's a decently good game otherwise.

I don't have NSMBU nor do I plan on getting it, but Luigi is my homeboy.

It's not really worth $30 - but - since it's only going to be a limited print run the price is unlikely to ever go down, especially since it's from Nintendo, so this is about as good as it'll get.

$30 seems pretty fair actually if you never played NSMBU. It's also got a decent amount of challenge to it.

A standard $60 game these days lasts about 10 hours for a single playthrough, and New Super Luigi U lasts about 5 hours. So, $30 is a fair price.

Haven't gotten the DLC yet since I just got a Wii U, but from playing NMSBU, I think it would take much longer to get all the secrets and star coins in NSLU than 5 hours. I might be around 20 hours into NSMBU and am just now getting close to getting all Star Coins.

I'd say its worth it just for the stand alone playback, but copies of Mario are pretty abundant.
