ITT: Nintendrones deny wanting trophies/achievements, but will rejoice once Nintendo introduces the "Accomplishment" system they talked about before the release of the Wii U.

Nope, troll.

Trophies are an evolution of high scores. You're basically saying that arcade players weren't real gamers for caring about getting the high score.

Sorry, but leaderboards are the the evolution of high scores, not trophies.

Evolution isn't a straight line, you realize. Leaderboards evolved to have improved traits over single-location high scores, while trophies evolved from high scores due to the fact that, like leaderboards, trophies are a measuring stick of your success at a game and drive you to compete with others to be "the best", except unlike leaderboards, trophies can go far more in depth.

Do you know what my incentive to play and beat most games is...

Seeing what happens at the end!!

Mario/Link rescues Peach/Zelda. Every single time.

I like achievements, and think Nintendo should have included them. There's no good reason not to, and it's an added incentive for people that do enjoy them.

Can this statement be applied to beating one's time? Or low % runs in Super Metroid? Or unlocking all the characters?

People are playing games to play the games. For a lot of them, that entails getting the trophies.

How do you explain buddies on your friends list who got 1000/1000 achievements or a platinum trophy for the Hannah Montana game?

Except trophies, unlike leaderboards and arcade scores before it, are fundamentally limited to a small list of possible scenarios developers can realistically conceive of.

With trophies, effectively there's no ways to distinguish between a better-than-average player who can just barely fulfil the minimum requirements to complete all the trophies, and top players who can (with nigh-superhuman efforts) pull off scores impossible for ordinary players that often even developers never thought possible.

You buy games, right? Well, there are people who steal money to buy games. By your logic of using the worst of those who enjoy trophies to depict trophy collectors, you are the same as a person who would steal money to buy games.
