Citizens of Earth Kickstarter (earthbound inspired)

The problem with copying Earthbound is that, if you want to really be Earthbound inspired it can't be merely aesthetic. You can't just have a quirky, funny theme to your game and say it's inspired by Earthbound, because Earthbound was more than that.

This video touches on some of what makes Earthbound such a deep experience.

Maybe you're just going for the quirky fun setting of Earthbound, and that's okay. But if it is your intention to pull themes and ideas from Earthbound I suggest doing some research on the game and really look into the ideas behind it.

It probably takes rocks and GA GONGs people with them!

So Earthbound x Pokemon RPG?

Sounds pretty interesting. :U

Thanks! Any support you can provide to the Kickstarter (whether via pledging or just sharing the link with friends) would be very much appreciated :)

Well actually we've researched Earthbound a TON, and of course have been fans of it since the day it came out almost 20 years ago here in North America.

And I think if you love Earthbound, you'll find a lot to like in Citizens of Earth. That's including the tone, aesthetic, theme, gameplay...everything! If you'll indulge me, allow me to leave you with a quote from one of the recent hands-on previews of the game:

"Everything we’ve seen in this supposedly alpha—yet extremely polished—demo points to a game that will charm the pants off retro RPG fans without frustrating newer players. Citizens of Earth has successfully drawn inspiration from the past, and specifically Earthbound, to create a modern update that could potentially live up to its epic muse." - http://www.gamezebo.com/news/2013/09/20/hands-citizens-earth

Thanks! I'll do that.

By the way, is anyone interested in trying out the demo of Citizens of Earth? I'd be happy to hook you up!

It looks promising. There hasn't been a massive jump yet in funding, but getting publicity on message boards and reddit can go a long way with that. Truthfully, I don't see a problem taking inspiration from Earthbound, even heavily. Most games build on the work from previous ones, and Earthbound is one of those games that has made surprisingly little impact in the gaming industry despite being so loved. With a bit of luck, the game will be funded, but I hope they meet their stretch goal so they are able to put it on a console/handheld as well as on PC. It seems like it would be such a shame otherwise.

Cool, looks interesting. I'm a big EarthBound fan too, and I have to admit I like the premise. LOL at being a typical politician using other people to do your dirty work. Good luck meeting your goal (if you're the real Ryan), and I look forward to trying out the demo.

haha I am the real Ryan, no need to worry about that. But I'm glad you're excited about the premise, and I look forward to hearing what you think!
