Anything in Wii Mode.

vWii is streamed to the Gamepad the moment you launch it, so anything in Wii mode works.

You still play the games with a wiimote + whatever else.

You do not use the gamepad as a controller for vWii. That will probably never be implemented as they've already charged people for VC games to use that feature.

You'll still need the sensor bar, or get creative with your own IR LEDs.

Edit: So it does, yet when I flipped my sensor bar behind my TV and tried a wiimote on the gamepad it didn't do anything.

The Wii U pad has a sensor bar built in.

I didn't get a reaction out of it when I hid my sensor bar so I figured it didn't have one.

Trying it now I still get no pointer. Hm.

Try it from like 3 feet back. Pikmin 3 had something about the gamepads built in sensor in the E manual.
Used it to play in the bed. No sensor bar even plugged in to the Wii U downstairs.
