Is putting Smash Bros on the 3DS a mistake?

You have to think that, potentially, it will make people who already own a 3DS just buy it on the 3DS or people who don't own either systems could go buy the cheaper system = 3DS.

I know Wii U would be better for local multiplayer but there's still a huge chunk of players that would do online and 3DS would be the more convenient choice. Thoughts?

It's not a mistake, as each game will have a different focus. The 3DS version has the handheld themed levels, and I'd wager that it'll have slightly different modes aimed more at gaming on the go. However in the long run having the handheld version will improve the console version, as with the limitations of a handheld they will have to be more clever with and think harder about the design. Limitations breed creativity.

I don't think it's a mistake. But I don't know, the game hasn't come out yet. I personally love that they are doing it though. Just gives more people the opportunity to play it.

nope, and does it even matter if Wii U sells or not? we will still get nintendo games regardless, and due to selling bad, quality should be there focus, so its all good imo.

I think that it is a mistake. While there will be value in buying both, parents, people with small budgets, etc. will probably buy one. Probably the cheaper one. And Smash Bros would be a strong system seller for the Wii U, but now it's only pseudo-exclusive.

Yes.

SSB is a big system seller. Wii Us could have been sold to people who wanted to play it. Now they'll settle for the 3ds version because just about everyone owns a 3ds.

Yes, because it severely makes people who were going to buy the Wii U just for Smash discount it entirely, especially if they already have a 3DS.

Two of my friends and myself both have 3DS', and after hearing this announcement, realized there was still no need to actually get a Wii U.
