The difference between a fact and a opinion.

So I often read through a lot of the topics here on the Wii U board. And I've come to realize that a lot of you seriously don't know what's the difference between a fact and an a opinion. I find it amazing how I see so much hyperbolic "facts" being thrown out without justification or without the need to express it's "what you think".

The result, many, arguments over what I believe to be some of the biggest B.S thought possible. I think it's crazy how many people there are on this board trying to shove their overblown "facts" or even their opinions down the throat of someone who doesn't want to conform to their view, it's immature, and it paves the way for even more arguments.

Do you have any idea how much this community would benefit if every time someone were to express their opinion they would say "I think" instead of randomly expressing what they "believe to know"?!

Let me give you some examples-

1.
Opinion: "I don't think" the Wii U will sell well this holiday.

"Supposed Fact ( That's Actually an Opinion)": The Wii U WILL not sell well this holiday because two of the greatest consoles of all time are coming out!

Fact: There are none since nothing has even happened as yet.

2.
Opinion: "I think" story is what matters most in video games.

"Supposed Fact( That's Actually an Opinion)" : No one plays games for game play, stories are what matter most!

Fact: There is no facts since this topic is opinionated.

Which would you feel more inclined to reply to in ways of a discussion? The "I think Opinion" or the "Supposed Fact"? Now think of which of one you'd feel more inclined to reply to in a blind rage or defense?

Look, I'm not going to force what I want all of you to do down your throats but I ask that you put what you say into consideration before needlessly going and starting more wars over which console/game is the more superior one and whatnot. It could go a long ways for both this board AND the Vita Board.

at first i was like, "seriously dude, you don't need to explain what an opinion is, stop patronizing me," but then i remembered what board i'm on.
and yeah, in my opinion, this board actually does need some preschool level education on this kinda stuff.

well most boards based around new audiences.

most classic console and classic game boards have plenty of debate, but zero accusations of trolling for having different opinions.
like the Xenogears board has someone come in there every now and then and start a topic hoping to start an argument saying, "this game sucks, it's just convoluted nonsense and it's unfinished etc etc," and rather than the reactions you see on this board whenever somebody criticizes W101 or something, people there are just like, "ah yeah, that's cool. it's not for everyone."

"Fact" uses the indefinite article "a" while "opinion" uses the indefinite article "an."

A fact and an opinion, in other words.
