My Wii U has suddenly decided that it doesn't want to connect to my gamepad nor display on my tv what am I supposed to do I've checked the wires, I've reset the console, I've unplugged the console nothing works.

Anyone got any suggestions otherwise I'm just gonna box this thing up

tried unplugging it an plugging it back in? mine tends to do that with the gamepad whenever the power cord gets removed. Just plugging it back in randomly fixes it.

Dark Souls? Hard?!
You clearly haven't played Resonance of Fate.

My suggestion: Take this day to enjoy time with your family rather than being annoyed that your console doesn't work right.

Call Nintendo tomorrow. You'll live.

To soften my previous post, I've had Christmases in which both my Wii and Gamecube were malfunctioning. There was very little I could actually do, except call Nintendo about it the following day. In one case I was able to get my repairs gratis, in the other I had to pay for the repairs. In either case Nintendo was very good about both problems.

Does the Blue light repeatedly blink when you turn it on?

Then you're in luck. The system is booting. Likely something minor. Might have to sync the gamepad or try the Wii component (if you have one.)
