Are high scores in games dead?

When you played the original Megaman did anyone care about the score?

To be fair, the overall plot of the MGS series sounds like it was written by a 7 year old on amphetamines.-CrystalKing5426

Scores don't have the same impact as before. I only really cared about my score when it would award you an extra life. Though it was neat to put your initials if you ever got a high score.

Achievements were trying to bring that spirit back and for a while it was neat. But I stopped caring about those as well.

What I think is really awesome is speed running. I'm not good enough to speed run but its awesome to watch those who are masters do them.

For the most part, yes. Though Super Mario 3D World does make some use of it, particularly in the multiplayer, where you try to compete to get the highest score to get the crown.

Most if not all P* games have a scoring system/leaderboards

It gives incentive to try and beat your high score and keep on playing the game.

Trophies/Achievements >>> High scores
I hate Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft but I like their consoles and games.
