Should I buy Xenoblade Chronicles or The Last Story for my Wii U?

#1o___OkamiPosted 2/4/2014 1:30:59 AM(edited)
Well, I just got done replaying the first Bioshock and playing through BS: Infinte and her DLC for the first time so now I'm kinda in a void of searching for a game with a good storyline and believable characters who actually evolve throughout the game and don't have absolutely generic anime tropes so I'm looking for one on all of the consoles I own.

Which one has believable characters that aren't anime tropes?

Does either game feature playable black character?

Which one feels more like a generic anime/JRPG?

I'm actually a fan of Nobou Uemetsu's work on the FF series. How is the music in The Last Story compared to his earlier works?

Better environments?

Better cinematics?

Better overall story?

Better gameplay?

Male characters that don't look overly effeminate?

This. As both are pretty cliche and full of anime tropes.

I take it you've played The Last of Us, Nier and Spec Ops The Line on other consoles? Along with Bioshock Infinite they have the best stories of last gen IMO (not counting handhelds).

Why do I get the feeling you're trolling?

You ask, "does it have anime tropes?"
Um... it's... both of them... are JRPGs.

That's like asking, if Missing in Action is an action movie. It's got Chuck Norris in it... what do you think?

Really, all your questions could have been simplified as, "Is it a a role-playing game made in Japan"?
Also, I can see why you'd want a game with a story after completing Bioshock Infinite. Ugh, let down of the generation, let me tell you.

both games have great characters but both have some that are your stereotypical anime characters. I think the main character of xenoblade is the most believable character out of both game, just an opinion though

Does either game feature playable black character?
no
Which one feels more like a generic anime/JRPG?
gameplay wise, neither. Story wise, The Last Story. Again, opinion

I'm actually a fan of Nobou Uemetsu's work on the FF series. How is the music in The Last Story compared to his earlier works?

the music in TLS is great but not as memorable as the old FFs. Not part of the question but Xenoblade imo has far better music with many memorable tracks

Better environments?
Xenoblade has vast open locations with a few very large town and offers TONS of exploration. TLS is more akin to FFXIII tho not as bad with one town that acts as a hub. So which ever one you'd prefer
Better cinematics?
depends on what you mean by better. TLS actually has some CGI scenes whereas Xenoblade has none but I thought that Xenoblade a lot more epic ones. They both have good cutscenes tho.
Better overall story?
totallu depends on your taste but Xenoblades is longer with a much larger scope and is much more original. My opinion is Xenoblade by a long shot but my opinion is also that Xenogears has a WAY better story than FF7 which some with different tastes would disagree to
Better gameplay?
Both have really great battle systems but Xenoblade just has soooooo much more to do. Exploring, crafting items, tons of sidequests, npc interaction has its own system, finding collectables, yada yada. My opinion is Xenoblade
Male characters that don't look overly effeminate?Xenoblade

Xenoblade imo is just hands down a better game, TLS is good too but just doesn't stack up to Xenoblade very well imo. My honest opinion is that if you plan on eventually getting both then you should get TLS and play it first so that Xenoblade doesnt ruin it for you (like it almost did for me) but if yiu can only ge t one then Xenoblade all the way and yes, it is completely worth the $80-$100 you may have to spend on it.

Xenoblade is better by far.

On the other hand, TLS lets you play shirtless with no penalty. You can go "swimsuit mode" on Xenoblade, but that puts you at a disadvantage regarding defense, so I only recommend it for NG+.

Get Xenoblade. Last Story is overrated. I hear that game brought up more than it deserves.

If you liked FF XIII then you might like Last Story. Except Last Story is even more linear.
