Consoles need to build on their predecessors.

This is one reason I believe the Wii U is having trouble.

The Wii notably didn't build off the GC. It's target audience and approach with its games was completely different. This is fine if the company is trying to reinvent its approach, which was the case with the Wii.

But it's important to move forward with that reinvented approach. To improve what made the previous console great. The Wii U fails in this regard. Rather than targeting everyone, the Wii U goes for a narrower gamer market. Rather than improving and building upon motion control, the Wii U throws something completely different into the mix.

Nintendo needs to decide on where to go and stick with it.

That boat has long since sailed.

So you're saying it's too late for them to market the console?

Some on topic discussion would be nice.

Honestly, I think Nintendo knows this. The 3DS was a natural evolution of the DS. I think the reason the Wii U is so different from the Wii is that Nintendo mistakenly judged the Wii as a misstep, and therefore saw a need to reinvent again.

...Nintendo had the entire 8th gen playing field to themselves for a year with absolutely no strategy whatsoever on how to capitalise on it. Broadly speaking, if they managed to royally **** that bonus up what makes you think that they'll magically pull this situation around with Sony and Microsoft now on the scene?
