Worth buying Virtual console games already owned?

Due to pure laziness, I would say yes. I'm tempted to pick up a lot of the games I used to play on the SNES/NES, but I feel like a jerk because I already own them. I can easily just put them in the system and play. Although my systems are getting quite old now and I'd like to keep them in tip top shape for games that aren't on the VC.

So the Pros for me:

- Convince
- (slight) portability.
- HD and clean looking.
- Save States.
- Preserve older consoles and games.
- Not that expensive.

And the cons for me:

- I already own these games.
- Will I pay another fee to transfer these games to new Nintendo system?
- $7.99 could get me a value meal or a dozen cookies at Publix.
- No save states, just save files. Gaming the old fashioned way.
- Composite? Gross.
- Playing them elsewhere for free (you know what I mean).

Now having the Internet make my own decisions for me would be lol, but I feel like having Gamefaq's opinions would be helpful in my choice. Now money isn't really a problem for me, but 7.99 here and 4.99 there will eventually add up. Ask my Steam account. Any advice will be appreciated.

I should also note that the controller won't be an issue. Pro Wii U controller, gamepad, and wiimotes.

I have a few games on VC that I own on the original system. The prices don't bother me.

I buy most of the games I already own just to have them on a new platform that's being used vs. having a bunch of old platforms out.

for me, normally no. like for Wii, i never bought any games i already had because why would i play an NES, SNES, or Genesis game on my Wii with a modern controller on a flat screen, if i could play it on the original hardware with its intended controller on my CRT TV? it's just paying extra to have an inferior experience.

however, i do buy games on WiiU in particular even if i already own them. because the handheld support on the gamepad is its own experience and definitely worth it. that's also why i don't see Wii Mode as a decent alternative, like when someone says, "it's already on Wii VC, you can get it through Wii mode anyway," but no you silly person, that's not the same. since jut means i'm buying games in obsolete form since i already have the originals, and if i don't have them yet i'd rather buy the original to play in intended form rather than buying it to play on the wrong kind of TV with the wrong controller. but when games get released on WiiU, the handheld form is its own feature that makes it worth a purchase.

These things are way too overpriced, even if you weren't able to play them free other ways.

They seriously need to drop VC prices. Then I would go on a spending spree.

Vc games are not in hd they display in their original format (4:3 50hertz/60hertz) with no extra added effects to make the picture look better.

Not sure why you would want to rebuy, i have loads of gameboy games but would never buy from vc because of how expensive it is.

Ok, what I meant to say is that it looks much better going through HDMI on the Wii U than it does in Composite or Coax on the SNES or NES.

The price isn't really the thing that bothers me the most, it's the principle of the fact that I'm rebuying the exact same game. I have a bad tendency to do that. For exmple, I have Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis, in Sega Smash Pack Vol. 1 on Dreamcast, Sonic Mega Collection on the Gamecube, and Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection on 360. I wasn't mainly buying those games for Sonic, but I just have that game on 4 different systems. I feel like some jerk.

If I had a spare crt tv, I would probably just hook up all my older systems on that. While I can agree with manmouse regarding playing the vc games on their original systems, I have quite a few of them hooked up on my plasma and they look pretty damn messy.

I have a feeling I'll be rebuying Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Kirby Super Star, Super Mario RPG (when it's released on Wii U) and others. I already bought F-Zero so what's $31.96? That's either going to be a couple Steam games I might play or a couple pizzas from papa johns if I have a good coupon and order delivery.

I guess nostolgia wins here folks. Thanks for the help.

No Wii U virtual console game isn't overpriced.
