Every "rpg element" that can be found in Zelda can be just as easily found in Banjo Kazooie and Tooie.

Though there is a lot of overlap between people who love RPGs and people who love Zelda, so I can see why it would me lumped in with the genre for purposes of discussion or marketing.

I remember the days pre ocarina when the series was widely considered action rpgs. In fact the game was often used to define the genre. In the same fps were called doom games and open world games were referred to as gta type games.

Action Adventure with RPG elements.

Nope, unless you're talking solely about The Legend Of Zelda II. They are action adventure period.

Action Adventure with RPG elements.

the only zelda with rpg elements is Adventure of Link. all the rest are straight up action adventure.

This. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know what an RPG is. Anyone who classes Zelda an RPG would have to class almost every single game in existence as an RPG.

Nah, I can't separate the idea of the RPG game from the whole accruing statistics mostly by fighting monsters thing. Although... I will say that I do consider Brave Fencer Musashi and Mana Khemia to be RPGs for some crazy reason and they are only just slightly further towards RPG than Zelda is. Yet the distinction seems pretty black and white anyway.

No, if it doesn't have turn based combat it's not an rpg. Zelda is more an adventure/quest sort of deal.

Except the second one on NES (yea the gold cartridge) there is nothing from RPG.

No exp, no random drops or damage modifiers, no class, ect...
