For those that think generations are based on hardware and not time..,

Why wasn't 3DO part of Gen 6?

Because it was released in the PS1 era

According to a certain troll I'm in possession of a time machine, as he claims he can prove I live with my mum... who died in 2002.

Because it was released during the 4th gen. Hell, it was discontinued years before gen 6 even started. Gen 5 had barely started when it was discontinued, actually.

It came out in '93, making it the first 32 bit console on the market. It could be considered the first 5th gen console, but 6th?

Every gen had a system noticeably less powerful than the competition (Atari 7800 is another great example) but only when the Wii came out did people start questioning it like it was a new thing.

That sentence could not be further from the truth. People have always questioned it and discussed it. If anything, the question was removed entirely with the Wii because it was hands down the weakest piece of hardware compared to its contemporaries. There was nothing to question.

I meant questioning whether or not it belonged to its console generation. The 7800 was just as underpowered as the Wii.

Got ya. There was a lot of that with the Wii. To a lesser extent with the Dreamcast, and before that the Jaguar/3DO.
