Relax dude, it's Sakurai. He's going to make a damn good game no matter what.

Brawl and Kid Icarus: Uprising are objectively two of the absolute worst games ever made
And playing SSB in HD with your friends without the need of them having their own system is more than enough of an incentive to buy SSB4U.

yeah, look how well advertising based off of "couch co-op" sold Super Mario 3D Land 2 and made it a killer Wii U seller!

oh, wait.....

local multiplayer is dead, even "LAN parties" have been rendered mostly obsolete due to increasing internet speed

online multiplayer is the standard, it has been for over a decade with PC games, consoles were just slow to adopt, as usual

only Nintendo fanboys are delusional enough to believe the whole "four friends playing on one Wii U and one copy of the game" thing is going to actually mean anything

furthermore, you still need four controllers, and on Amazon, an official Wii U pro controller costs..... $41 for black, $50 for white?!

how much do 3DS games cost again? $40?

so..... $300 Wii U, $60 SSB4, and four $40 pro controllers (if a handheld is bad for fighters, then so is the pad)..... $520

vs

4 $130 2DS and $40 SSB..... $680

.....divided amongst four people, $170

would you look at that, that little thing you keep repeating about local multiplayer also fails to really save any money!

Any counters to this? Wouldn't online cost even more as each player must purchase an individual Wii U, game, and controller? That'd be over $1000!

And Brawl and Uprising have excellent scores from a majority of reviewers and players, so your opinion isn't universal.

People need to quit pre-ordering games all together. Smash Bros will be available everywhere on day one. If you can't find one at Gamestop go to a big box store and they'll have hundreds of copies.

back in the day hot games actually sold out on release day...today not so much. if you live out in the rural areas its smart to pre order niche/lesser known games because theres a chance your GS or w/e wont stock any copies. retailers push it because its $$$ for them today.

It depends on how you want to carve it. If all you want is the cheapest possible multiplayer Smash Bros. for four people, the local option is $130 per player by Endgame's own calculations, and you could get it down to $120 if you make someone use the Gamepad. There's a number of assumptions baked in here, mainly that you're all local and everyone agrees where the Wii U should reside, but you'd save $40 to $50 each over the 2DS and game for all route.

It's $400/ea if everyone buys a Wii U, the game and a Pro Controller. It's $240/ea if everyone gets 3DS XLs instead of 2DSes.

The Wii U version would be most appealing when one sucker--I mean person--in the group already has a Wii U, and only a couple of people (or none) have a 3DS.

Wow ingenious!!

However for the majority of 3ds Smash owners this will be their very first entry into the series so a summer release is best as it doesn't bog them down with other games choices in the same period like the holidays would and gets the maximum amount of new users introduced to Smash. Hopefully making them lifelong fans this also gives word of mouth and other means to spread the blessed word of Smash across the 3ds base unhindered. Seeing how the 3ds is currently the best selling system with the broadest audience ranging from Sony Ponies, Xbot dudebros, PC master race elitists, and of course the everyman/woman this would spread Smash wide and far.

Smash Wii U is more of a gift to current fans of Smash not designed to bring in people but rally the base and seeing how the 3ds version will be for new people the Wii U version makes more sense to come out later as it maximizes sales for the both of em'. Those people freshly introduced to Smash may be enticed to be a Wii U due to the content and graphics which is rather plausible seeing how most camps other than Nintendo are obsessed with graphics. Fully expect more Nintendo should go third party posts after the 3ds version is released and right up and after the Wii U version.

But your plan is cool too

What are you basing that on?

@ HItSquad187 as well

Did you to not read my explanation post on page two? This is a pretty small topic after all

Short Version

Global 3ds sales are about 43 Million+ that's more than 5x the number of total Vita sales
Greater than the global total sales for the Wii U, PS4, Vita, and Xbox ONE combined
More sales than the lifetime totals of the N64, Genesis, Gamecube, Xbox and soon SNES

Those numbers are obviously not brought about by just Nintendo fans and Nintendo recognizes there current situation. They obviously have many new consumers through the 3ds market. Nintendo ID, naming, release dates, offers to get free games, ect... their building the 3DS base up as that's fresh blood then slowly creating bridges to move those people to the Wii U.

Take a look at the situation with Mario Kart 8 for instance. Mario Kart double dash had 2 people, Wii had bikes, and 7 had gliders and whatnot while none of those games shared any of their gimmicks Mario Kart 8 in it's first trailer prominently showed of the bikes to pull the Wii karters and the Gliders for the 3ds players. Previous Mario Karts never followed any shared naming scheme either double dash, super circuit, and console associations like 64 and Wii yet the Wii U version plays directly off of the 3ds version calling itself Mario Kart 8.

(No I'm not going to bottle feed the link look up the current global sales yourselves.
Also that's why people really don't debate the release dates anymore because they understand the situation)
