I want a Metroid game where Samus gets back in the kitchen and cooks her husband a meal like she's supposed to. And if she talks back she'll get five across the lip.

I would pre-order this

GAMEPLAY
+Multiple control schemes.
+A more open overworld.
+Flesh out SenseMove, and something that limits how many times attacks can be dodged using it within a certain period of time.
++Health and missile pick-ups from defeating enemies return in exchange for the above.
+Missiles can be accessed outside of first person view.
+The environment tells a story even outside of cutscenes.
+Either pixel hunts are gone, or the solution area is bigger/more obvious.
+Scanning lore returns.

STORY
+A script that doesn't contain consistent writing problems.
+Samus' weakness from Other M is addressed and overcome in an awesome, noticeable way.
++If Ridley returns, as soon as he appears and/or opens his mouth, Samus blasts him with a missile without hesitating.
++Samus gets to do stuff, both in gameplay and in cutscenes.
++Samus doesn't parrot everything said, and gets independent thoughts. She also doesn't announce her feelings outright.
+At least one line is said that states the Prime games did happen.

AUDIO
+Jessica Martin as Samus again, to give her another chance.
+Someone else to do English voice directing.

Let's take a look at the gameplay of Other M. Specifically the way Samus moves. Samus actually moves around pretty satisfyingly, ignoring the awkwardness that using the d-pad in 3D can bring. The camera is also pretty damn good for the most part.

I propose to you the following: The next 3D Metroid game could combine the way Samus moves in Other M with the design philosophy of the Prime series. Let's look at the facts, how many series have really succeeded at bringing Metroidvania into 3D? There's Dark Souls, and there's Prime, really. It's not an easy thing to do, so using the Prime games as a baseline to design the game around makes perfect sense, since they kinda nailed it down almost perfectly.

Now, we'll assume this game is on the Wii U, and as such, would be played with the Pro Controller and/or GamePad. The Pro Controller has a whole lot more buttons than the sideways Wii Remote, so there are a lot more things that could be done with the controls.

Analog Movement: This speaks for itself really. Add an extra layer of smoothness and precision to Samus's movement. This might cause complications with a speed booster item though, but there are ways to work around that

Combat Roll: This, essentially, would replace the sense move. The Combat Roll would have a separate button assigned to it, and would allow Samus to do a quick dive in any direction at will. This would be used for added mobility for dodging in combat, but wouldn't be something you could just mash to become invincible. It has no impact on your charge beam

Beam Switching: This might just be me, but I feel that having four beams you can switch between in different situations is more fun than having beam upgrades that stack together. This would add a bit more variety to combat and might also open the possibility for Beam Combos. Speaking of which

An [Arm Missile] Button: Yeah you probably saw this coming. One of the shoulder buttons would be held down to switch the fire button to missiles. Or maybe we'll just have a [Fire Missile] button like the Primes. Either one.

Lock on Button: Hold it down and Samus will focus her fire on the enemy she's locked onto. Pretty self explanatory.

SCANNING: I NEED TO SCAN. SCANNING IS LIFE. SCANNING IS LOVE. EVERYTHING MUST BE SCANNABLE. SCAN THE WORLD ASUNDER! Uh, sorry. Remember the first person mode from Other M? Well, it's back, but instead of being used for missiles, it's now the scan visor. A separate button will switch Samus into scan mode (since...well you can't exactly turn the Pro Controller sideways). Scan mode will use Dual Analog control to give Samus limited mobility: right analog stick to aim, left to walk around, lock on button to scan. If using the GamePad, players will also have the option to use the gyroscope thingy to aim like in Wind Waker HD.

Build a world that is interconnected, new, and feels alive, with that fine attention to detail that Prime brought to the series, an awesome, atmospheric soundtrack (bring Yamamoto back!), areas designed around Samus's abilities, and I think we'd have a damn fine Metroid game. You could even have some story-telling elements in there, just...without so many cutscenes. I don't think the Prime games should be quarantined in their own little area, with a fine line drawn between THESE Metroid games and THOSE Metroid games. They added a lot more to the series than just first-person shooting, and I think to ignore that is wasting a lot of potential for the series to grow even more.

And yes I know this is a gimmick poster. Hence the copypaste

I know it wasn't all her Martin's that her performance in Other M was bad, but I'd still prefer Hale coming back. She was just perfect for Samus to me.

Why would this be a good idea? Why should the next Metroid game be dragged down by the memory of Other M? Can't it just pretend like it never happened? There are a lot more problems with the narrative of Other M than just Samus acting as a passive and weak character; there are enough that trying to make Other M fit into the Metroid Timeline without inconsistencies would require a significant amount of time and effort and would inevitably feel forced.

More villains need to be protagonists. BIS proves it can work.
Ridley, Ganondorf, Fawful, Bowser, and Dimentio all for their own games!

The best way to address Other M's story is to ignore it completely and never mention it again.

The truth. Heck, go so far as to include a scan entry that states that around two weeks passed between the end of Super Metroid to the beginning of Metroid Fusion, just to make things very clear.
