simple question. i think it's safe to say that's the most common or at least most expected introduction to video gaming at least for people who lived through at earliest the late 80's and at latest the early or mid-90's.

as a bonus, do you remember how it felt playing your first game?

for me, firstly i should indeed mention that my first game was in fact SMB+Duck Hunt, and i was around 3, maybe even sometime before my 3rd birthday. it was as if i was suddenly hired by a major cartoon to become the director or even better, to be the star himself. the concept was so alien at the time, to boot up this machine that allowed me to enter my TV and become a character on the screen and actually "be" the character inside of it (keep in mind i'm talking from a small child's perspective). even the black screens that simply say World _-_ and [Mario sprite]x3 are burned into my memory, almost like those were the doorway into the alternate world.

also, do you still have your first game today?
for me, yes. i have it on NES, as well as the Allstars SNES port, and the WiiU digital version.

My dad had an entire collection of NES games before I was born, so I don't really have a 'first' game, but SMB+duck hunt was among them.

Yes, followed by TMNT 2.

It wasn't even among my first NES games. It blew my fragile little mind when I did run into it, one cartridge with more than one game on it. I started gaming on my parents' consoles, a Colecovision with Atari adapter, and Odyssey^2.

I don't remember exactly, but I had an Atari 2600 before I got an NES with SMB+DH. That dog was a menace for ages, lol.

same! i could never settle on a main, between Michelangelo and Donatello. gameplay-wise it never mattered anyway since i always had to depend on my brother to handle the bulk of the enemies.

I had the SMB/Duck Hunt/World Class Track Meet cart, and I clearly remember Mario being my first game ever.
It's all in the mind, y'know.
