What's really the point of Nintendo buying Rare from Microsoft?

Besides receiving all the IPs, what's the point? Majority of the original staff left the company to form Retro (or join it later on) or work on other project with other companies. Heck, David Wise's most recent work was in Tropical Freeze.

So, why are people so hellbent on Nintendo getting a-hold of Rare again?

I'll put in perspective how little valuable Rare is for developing non-Kinect titles these days: Microsoft was making a new Killer Instinct, and despite owning the company that made the original, they got someone besides Rare to make it. They did get Klobb in there at least though.

There is not point. Rare team has been irrelevant for over a decade now

The only thing Rare has in common with the company we all loved years ago is the name. All the talent has went elsewhere and sadly its now a bit of a joke.

No one wants Rare as a studio, they want those IPs.

The IPs are the point, and by having them, being able to release Rare titles on the Virtual Console, and develop future titles with Rare characters and other properties.

Exactly this. Its the IPs. The reason why games like donkey kong 64, banjo-kazooie, duddy kong racing, can't come to VC is because nintendo doesn't own the rights. Personally I would love for them to get rare back. They were stupid for wholly buying them when they had the chance.

For Nintendo to sell high and then buy back low would be quite an accomplishment.
