Why doesn't Nintendo make Mario Kart 8 a cross play game like the new Smash?
Seems like it'd be a great idea.

Smash isn't crossplay
Rest in peace, DJ Rashad
Smash isn't crossplay
This. Smash Bros. for the 3DS and Wii U are different games. They just interact with each in certain ways, not even people playing with each other. Sony All-Stars is an example of a cross-play game because the PS3 and Vita version are exactly the same and people can play each other on those platforms.
Favorite Games: Clock Tower SNES, Dark Cloud 2, FFX, FO1, Impossible Creatures, MGS1, Okami, RCT2, SMT, SSBB, SSX Tricky, THPS3, TW101, Xenoblade
Smash Bros shouldn't even be cross play if they truly wanted to sell Wii U consoles. Thank god Kart 8 isn't. Not to mention Kart is always a once-a-system game.

That's what was said about 3D Mario (Super Mario Galaxy 2) and 2D Mario (New Super Luigi U).
This will "save" the Wii U: A list I made of everything it's currently doing for anyone who owns one.
They have to do something to make the Wii U look appealing on its own so maybe that is why

Because it started with the Wii and not the NES....

I never understood why they are considered the same entry in the series, if they are two different games.
Why do nerdsalways get caught up on the details?

Because they share enough assets between each other to the point that even Nintendo considers them the same basic installment 'generation' or whatever. There is also some unrevealed cross play features between the two, so crossplay isn't completely ignored here.

This has always been a problem of mine too. Granted I can understand saving something like Smash Bros for once a generation, but why are we always so accepting of just one (if that) or two (if lucky) installments from each of these franchises from a console? Wouldn't we want the lifespan of the console to be nourished with more than just one outing of these franchises? Isn't the way it's done now mean that each installment is doomed to have impossibly high standards due to such a long wait?
I'm not suggesting the overstauration of annual releases (as you will no doubt be quick to point out), but there's got to be a happy medium between every year and every half decade (and this is without mentioning the ignored franchises like FZero and Star Fox which can skip entire consoles completely)

I thought in the direct they said the 3DS and Wii U Smash would connect in some way that they haven't revealed yet?
