It'll still probably end up being 720. If it is indeed 1080p, then I don't see why they wouldn't elect to drop the resolution down to 720 with 3-4 players to preserve the 60fps. Nintendo has always cared about smoothness over visual fidelity, so that's why I'm almost positive it's 720 60fps and drops to 30 with more than two players.
But if it was 720p you could make the same argument that it'd make sense for 4 player to be 540p60. Perhaps they don't want to risk causing problems for certain TVs by dropping the resolution during the game or something like that.

If a game can't run at a constant 60FPS at 1080p, it most likely can't in 720p.
Considering the jump from 1280 x 720 to 1920 x 1080 is a doubling in the amount of detail to render, per frame, it's possible.

You don't know jack s*** about what you're talking about.
Why do you think all of Nintendo's U games that hit that constant 60fps are 720p? They elected having a lower resolution in favor of having a stable framerate. I don't know what makes you think that if in a high resolution a game can't hit a framerate that dropping the resolution dramatically won't change anything and they might as well do the higher resolution because they wouldn't hit the higher framerate anyway at a lower one.
I suppose that's why BF4 on PS4 is only at 900p, by your logic it's just as easy for them to do 1080p 60fps. I wonder why they didn't do it? It can't be because of the consoles limitations and the developers wanting to provide a smoother experience over a prettier one.

720p is no surprise. All of their 60FPS games have been 720p thus far. If SM3DW and Pikmin 3 are any indication, it will still scale gloriously to 1080p. I'm not worried.
Plus, framerate is king for arcade-like games anyway.
Resolution matters to me. But it's only one of many important factors to me regarding a game's looks. Day 1 purchase.
