Things are looking pretty bad unless Nintendo can start turning Wii U sales around soon.

Nintendoís Wii U, in contrast, lacks compelling specs,

Because that matters, right, every single best selling console before?

a sweetheart price

Meanwhile, they're jumping onto the $400 and $500 PS4 and XO.

or a historical PlayStation 2-equivalent to build on.

What's a Wii?

Itís in the same ballpark as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, oomph-wise, but thatís not what gamers whoíve lived with Sony and Microsoftís systems for the past six or seven years were looking for in November 2012

Yeah, that's pretty true (besides the fact that the Wii U is MORE POWERFUL THAN BOTH OF THEM) since those two did worse than the Wii, which was less powerful, wait, what was his point again? Oh right, bandwagon hopping.

The Wii Uís price hasnít helped matters: $350 at launch, for the only version youíd care to own,

The only difference between a Deluxe and Standard is that the latter has a game and more memory, which doesn't matter to people who care for digital since they'll buy a much bigger harddrive.

And why is he bringing up launch when that's no doubt when the Wii U has done the best?

Worse still, the companyís failed to ramp up software production or woo third-party developers, leaving the Wii Uís cupboards bare, or filled with I.O.U.ís for repeatedly delayed first-party games

And by repeatedly delayed games, you mean Pikmin and Donkey Kong. Mmm.

And Sony and MS never delay their games.

While the original Wii outsold the Xbox 360 and PS3, it appealed most to that ficklest of fickle demographics: casual gamers. $250 was sufficiently low to fuel novelty sales at first, but once the bloom was off that rose, sales plummeted, and anecdotes about unplayed Wiis have become a games industry aphorism.

Aw, that's cute. The old "da wii waz a fad!!!!!" argument. Remember, sales are important! If its for Sony or Microsoft.

The Wii U, by contrast, has little of the Wiiís novelty, and the Wii U GamePad feels increasingly like a creative missósomething that would have worked better as an optional peripheral

"I'm not going to explain how, it just is."

Meanwhile, the PS4 remained consistent with its novelity, by having none, and the XO just ditched the Kinect, so clearly they're in the right.

if youíre the Virtual Boy and your followupís the Nintendo 64, but the Wii Uís probably going to be with us for a while,

You heard it right, folks. Having the goddamn Virtual Boy as a humungous failure is OK, but having the Wii U not do so well even after coming after the Wii and DS and co-existing with the 3DS? Nintendoomed.

Damn, this article hits every Nintendoomed cliche out there, and with none of the thought.

itís not at all clear the likes of upcoming games like Mario Kart 8 or Bayonetta 2 or Super Smash Bros. are going to be enough to arrest the Wii Uís tailspin

You heard it right, folks. The heavily advertised MARIO KART 8 won't sell.

Good grief...

If you actually read, it says those games might not be enough to get the Wii U selling. Not those games won't sell. And that is a legitimate point. So far, A 2D mario platformer, A 3D mario platformer, a Donkey Kong game and a new Wii Fit have failed to get people interested in the console, all games that were very popular and sold well on the Wii.
