Cause he's scared the competition will have enough time to copy their idea and incorporate it into their games. You think he was specifically referring to Splatoon at the time or maybe something else? Although props to Iwata if it was for Splatoon, He predicted it would be a big hit.

too early to tell if it will be "big hit" but it does look fun especially for an early demo. back on topic, I think he was likely talking about splatoon.

Lets hope he wasn't referring to S.T.E.A.M., because it is so obviously Valkyria Chronicles/XCOM.

Splatoon looks awesome, and perhaps the coolest thing about it is that it's 2 young developers leading the game, with an older supervisor who isn't that prominent within Nintendo. It's the first real example of a younger team taking on larger roles, and creating solid new content that still feels decidedly unique and 'Nintendoish'.Very cool stuff. Looks incredibly fun.

This, As great as Nintendo products are. They should always have 2 or 3 games on the side for new developers to have a take on by themselves without a superior controlling too much. The superior are growing old and starting to go out of touch

I'd be willing to be you'll see updated elements of splatoon in the next next COD game or some other realistic FPS game.

A good idea is a good idea, regardless of game.
