Was music in Earthbound changed?

I know the reason nintendo refused to release it was because of music among other things, was any of it changed?

This was just fan speculation due to NOA never releasing it. Turns out the music was never an issue. The only thing changed from the original U.S. SNES cart is some of the PSI attacks display has been nerfed as to not cause seizures. The flashing has been reduced but the animations are the same.

As a hardcore Earthbound/Mother fan since I bought the original cart on release day, I almost couldn't notice it at all. Everything is the same.

Edit: Here's a video of the differences from the JPN versions that Mato from earthboundcentral.com did. Great site by the way for all things Earthbound! (Mato is the guy who translated Mother 3 to English)

No. That was just fanboy justification for why Nintendo didn't release it.
