Scammed and sold a broken wii u :( Anyone have knowledge on Nintendo warranty?

I was scammed today from buying a wii u on craigslist :(. I didn't get to try it out since we met in a parking lot for the exchange, but everything looked new so I didn't think much of it.

Got home and the Wii U itself turned on fine, but I went ahead and set everything back to factory settings. Upon doing so it asks me to pair the gamepad. Uh oh, the touch screen isn't working! I noticed all the rubber covers over the screws are gone so it looks like it has been opened before!

The seller is ignoring my calls/texts so I don't know what to do. Anyone have any suggestions on a fix or on how much nintendo charges to replace it? If it happens to be still under warranty will they be able to tell it was opened before?

Call the police and take him to small claims court.

I only have his phone number. Do you think that can be enough?

Go to your local police station. You will (eventually) get your money back and the guy will get some type of community service or probation.

Also buying stuff from people in a parking lot is not a good idea and never turns out well.

You don't "just" have his phone number; you have the Craigslist ad.

It usually somehow saved in a form of history, so even if he deletes it. With some police work, it can be recovered easily

I'll go to the police tomorrow either way and see what they say.

I'm incredibly depressed right now.

If it comes down to it anyone know what it costs to replace the gamepad through Nintendo?

Man I totally feel you on this =/ Once I bought a PS3 off someone on Craigslist and when I got home with the 6 games I just bought for it, the Blu Ray Drive would not catch the discs. The guy ended up ignoring me like with you but luckily I am comfortable with electronics. So I popped that bad boy open and with the help of a PS3 dismantling guide I managed to successfully open up the PS3 and reset the Blu Ray rail.

Now the moral of my life story isnt to fix it yourself, just wanted to share that you arent the only one who has luck like this. :( Best of luck with whatever happens! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
