Goldeneye 64 and other RARE games potentially never making it for download?

Can anyone confirm if the DKL VC release in Japan has all Rare logos intact? I'm under the impression that this is the issue here. Despite Nintendo owning the IP, Microsoft owns the Rare logo.

RARE has nothing to do with dk64 issue, in their own words :

Also the Rare logo just belongs to Rare...You could see it on every game published by thq after being bought by Microsoft (sabrewulf, hey it's mr pants, viva pinata...)

Best you can do it lurk the Japanese DKL Miiverse page and look to see if anyone posts a picture of where the Rare Logo should be. Either that or ask one of the people on the 3DS board who has a Japanese 3DS. Hell you could offer them the like $4 it costs to get if they don't have it, if you really want to find out.

Unless you hear otherwise, there's no reason to assume they modified a game on a system they haven't supported in over a decade.

Speaking specifically about Goldeneye, it's not up to Nintendo or MS (the owners of Rare). Nitnendo and MS actually reached an agreement to release Goldeneye on both Live and Virtual Console but the Bond license was expired and has to be renewed, which is up to whoever the hell owns that now (seems to change every few years)

I know it's not a RARE title but, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time... That game (by Konami), unfortunately will probably never ever see the light of day again, thanks to (I believe) both Nickelodeon and Activision.

This one is a classic and I can't believe we'll never get the amazing Arcade and SNES versions on the eShops! I HATE licensing issues! Ugh!

This is why I hate Microsoft...

They bought out a company. They don't use the companies past successions. Instead, they allow them to make silly games for the kinect, which from what I've heard and read, is the least likable gimmick added to the Xbox.

I wish the contract between Microsoft and Rare would just disappear. e.e

I looked through various Miiverse posts and the Rareware logo is indeed still present.

Here is a screenshot of Donkey Kong Land containing the Rareware logo:

For Donkey Kong Land 2, I could not find any screenshots of the initial screen (apparently, nobody posted any), but here's one of the title screen. You can still see the Rareware logo in the treasure chest:

And finally, here's a screenshot of Donkey Kong Land III with the Rareware logo:

So apparently, Microsoft doesn't seem to have an issue with the Rareware logo in any of these games. However, this doesn't explain why the DKL games haven't been announced overseas, nor does it explain why the DKC games were abruptly removed from the Wii Virtual Console.

Everyone of note from Rare bailed after the buyout anyways. The closest thing to N64-era Rare these days is Free Radical, currently owned by Crytek. And who knows how long that will hold out.

Anyway, point being even if Microsoft released Rare they still wouldn't be Rare.
