Am I the only one who doesn't like the direction Mario Power Tennis took?

Mario Power Tennis is a mechanically solid game, and content rich too; I just couldn't get over how much it emphasized gimmicky special attacks. It made games take longer, and they weren't really hard to pull off. w/ the original Mario Tennis on N64, the game honestly stood on its own w/ its quality selection of characters and its solid tennis gameplay (probably the best sports series from Nintendo besides possibly Mario Golf!). It kind of ties into the overall degradation Mario Tennis has suffered, where they completely cut out the handheld series' bread and butter (the RPG mode). That mode, for me, made Mario Tennis on GBC one of my favourite GBC games. You all should def. buy Mario Tennis: Power Tour; IMO, it's the last truly great Mario Tennis game.

Never played it so I couldn't really say.

I like special attacks, cuz they bring out the uniqueness in each character. Every character isn't just a bunch of stats.

Yeah, but there are ways you can do that which don't interrupt the flow of the game. What if Koopa Troopa's charge hit spun around in his shell, giving him more range than the standard? Or if Boo could teleport in an interesting way? Or if Mario had a fire effect to his hits, and Luigi had an electric effect, Peach has a heart effect, and Daisy has a flower effect? There are a lot of things that you can do, but IMO, cutscenes and too much emphasis on extending the match with skill-less abilities... meh.

Never played Power Tennis, but if it's at all similiar, the way the special attacks disrupted the game flow of Mario Strikers annoyed me a little bit.

Mario Power Tennis/64 or Golf GCN/N64 = Pokemon Stadium
Mario Tennis GBA/GBC or Golf GBA/GBA= Main Pokemon games

Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS kinda broke that trend with there not being a RPG mode. and with Mario Golf World Tour being able to stand on its own means that is probably broken too.

Now if only the Wii U could even get one of those. Just please no forced Wii remote controls. Allow us to use the Pro Controller.

Mario Tennis: Power Tour is honestly one of my favorite GBA games. It's absolutely fantastic.
