I buy a good deal of my games used. Am I harming the industry?

Yes, whenever you buy a used game it is like slapping the CEO of whichever company's games you're buying, then slapping the mother of that CEO before pushing her down and teabagging her while shouting every single insult known to man at her.

You're damning us all!

So you're saying I need to buy more used EA games?

The only games I buy new are EA games. I want to make sure they get my money. Mostly because everyone else seems to pick on them, I figure they need my help.

No, people buy used games because they're cheaper. They think that $60 price tag is too expensive. It's likely they wouldn't even buy certain games at all if they can't get it used, which results in them spending less money on games, which is bad for the industry as a whole. A balance between new and used means that the market is doing well.

The game industry is an exception with greedy publishers who feel entitled for money from used games. If they want people to buy games new they need to make better games or games that have more replay value, so that the players won't sell them within a week of buying them.

Example:
Nintendo reports they sold 10 copies of Mario Kart through gamestop.

Gamestop sells 10 copies of mario kart that get sold back and sold out 50 times as used copies. Gamestop gets all the money from those used copies.

It's amazing for gamestop but the companies don't get any money for used games.

It really skews the stats which is why I don't trust them, they focus on numbers from new sales only.

It makes it clear why digital sales are pushed by all companies.
