Can somebody clarify this? About certain SNES Club Nintendo rewards.

I remember recently reading (but I cannot remember where I saw it) that something like Earthbound from the Club Nintendo rewards is technically a Wii Virtual Console title. While it's labelled as a Wii U item in the rewards page, it could actually be just redeemed on a Wii.

Is this true?

(On another note, is the Wii online service still working, or was it only the NDS online service that was discontinued?)

Club Nintendo states whether it is a Wii title, or a Wii U title. If a Wii title, it must be redeemed from the Wii channel on the Wii U. Also, Earthbound is a Wii U title.

Wii online functionality in games no longer works.

I'm mainly asking because I don't have access to a Wii U, but do have access to a Wii and am just looking at my options.

You mention "in game", but what about other aspects of Wii's online? As in, can I still access the store or redeem codes directly from the Wii if they were originally meant for the Wii? (I know you just said Earthbound is not specifically a Wii-compatible VC title, so ignore that for now)

Wii Shop should still work, and some games can still play online

If it's labeled "Wii/Wii U" it's actually a Wii VC game.
