Why is New Super Mario Bros so bland?

Mario 1, 2, 3, and World all felt different

2 didn't even start as a Mario game and aren't you forgetting something? You know, Lost Levels, which is a worse "rehash" than NSMB could ever be?

But yeah, the artstyle is pretty homogenized and the soundtrack (in Wii and 2) is the same.

The levels and level design, though, aren't.

The slow pace and lack of punishment for mistakes goes against everything the old marios had going for them.

Implying that the old Marios were fast and difficult?

Because they weren't.

I thought the level design of NSMBWii and U were pretty good, and I thoroughly enjoyed each of those through to full completion.

However, I greatly disliked both the NSMB entry for the DS and NSMB2 for the 3DS. They both seemed poorly designed (in comparison to the Wii and 3DS iterations, especially). Actually, I had great trepidation and low expectations of NSMBWii because of NSMB1, but was greatly surprised and amused with Wii, going so far as to play it through twice, once alone, and the second time with a roommate a year or so later.

I'll tell you this, though: The soundtrack lost me and I barely remember anything from U or Wii because the track was just. that. boring. Mario 3D World, though? I love their jazzy tracks.

Sony bought Konami and will release a DDR game for the Nintendo 3DS. In this game, you set your 3DS on the floor and stomp on it till it no longer functions.

Ahnold, SMB Lost Levels was awesome. The tone was completely different, it had WAY more levels (like 16 more?), it gave Luigi differences from Mario, it added the Poison Mushroom, and it added new mechanics like wind. I would sooner conflate it with Majora's Mask or Galaxy 2 than I would with New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Anyway, New SMB 2 isn't on the NES - it hasn't any excuse for why this sequel feels like an expansion. It doesn't add a different tone or difficulty, and basically everything remains the same. The New SMB series needs to not be so ironically rehash.

Uh, why do you write "NSMB" as "New SMB", Vyers?

More villains need to be protagonists. BIS proves it can work.
Ridley, Ganondorf, Bowser, Fawful and King Dedede all for their own games!

I think if you yelled at the police like that, especially in such a familiar way, they'd be really annoyed.

They might shoot you with wooden bullets and bring tanks.
