Will this harddrive work on WiiU?

Its a WD My Passport Ultra 1TB Portable External USB 3.0 Hard.

If i'm not mistaken, those are powered from the pc itself and don't have their own power supply. If so you might need a usb y splitter cable to connect to two usb ports on the wii u to power it properly.

neogeoftw is correct. It's USB powered, so you'll need a Y-cable. Since yours uses a USB3 cable, you'll need one like this.

The wd passport drive should work on wii u with a y cable i mentioned. Looked online and it seems people have been using that drive fine as long as you do the y cable thing.

I dont know if the second cable you posted will work since its a mini usb as the male end. You need a y cable that is full sized usb female to two male usb splits.

That one's plug doesn't match the port that you can see in the 2nd screenshot of the hard drive you linked in your opening post.
