I almost didn't think it was a video game at first. The trailer on xbox live blew me away with the quality of the graphics.

It's because it's CGI and not in-game graphics. lol
The trailer is setting up the story, like a cutscene.

Of course it's CGI, I'm just marveling at the quality of it. If the actual graphics looked like that in game, I wouldn't believe it's on current gen consoles.

Yeah Realistic cgi is not hard to find at all these days. That technology has been mastered 10x at this point.

As good as the cgi is, they still hit the uncanny valley pretty hard. I can't think of a single video game that has done 3D characters where you could really get them confused with an actual person.

I seem to remember an interview with a graphics designer that said graphics as good as Avatars aren't that far away for video games. (Queue $100,000,000 budgets and $120 games).

Far Cry 3

Batman Arkham City

Uncharted 3

Ninja Gaiden

Assassin's Creed (Any)

Metal Gear Solid

Mass Effect 3

The Last Of Us

And the list goes on and on. Fact is, artists are striving for perfect recreation of the human anatomy and are getting closer to that goal with every day.

They are getting closer undeniably. All the games you listed have some of the best people and faces out there. But if any of those characters walked up to you in real life you'd hold your breath for fear of catching their disease.

The differences between real life and virtual life nowadays is very subtle. It's easy to get lost in a virtual world with pretty darn good virtual characters. But the moment you combine the virtual character with the real world, all the differences will be magnified tenfold.

I bet when compared to real life the differences WOULD be hugely noticable as you say, but just from the trailer I had to do a double take at first. looks REALLY good.

Don't forget that the trailer showing off the characters is CGI. I too was very impressed nonetheless.
