Probably not, tropics and rain forests have rediculous amounts of moisture and humidity. Like trying to light a wet match basically. And with the heavily forfeited areas in far cry 2 this was reflected and I doubt it'll be any different here.
^ I found them useful. They could be used to draw enemy attention to an area, allowing you to escape or quickly pick up a mission item before getting away. If things got hectic it could be used as a distraction, and it's particularly effective when there's explosives lying around.
I found it HIGHLY useful. It serves as an EXCELLENT distraction. If you pay attention to what direction the wind is blowing you can force most the enemies to leave cover and pick them off from a distance. It is also a great escape method if you need to leave a situation fast. Just get in a grassy area, drop a molotov, and run.
Also, FC2 had jungles and the fire worked there, but less effectively. I don't get the impression at ALL that FC3 is going for realism and the fire system was totally badass. I'd be rather surprised if it doesn't come back. It's a good selling point.

Uglyface2 posted... Were the fires even all that useful? I tried using them every so often, and while it kept enemies from coming straight at me, all they had to do was walk around the fire, or just back up and shoot.
9 times out of 10 i would kill snipers and rocket snipers with fire, i would set the land on fire around them and they would panic
Sometimes i would wound somoene and then set a fire so that the others would funnel to the injured person and then snipe them one by one
The Fire was amazing
I doubt that 3 will be anything but a pure action linear shooter
