What is Farcry About?

Sorry, never heard of farcry games until last E3, saw a trailer for Farcry 3 and was very interested (but also confused). Do I need to know the story of 1 and 2 to enjoy 3? Is there a quick history somebody can give me so I'm up to speed? They are showing more at this E3 and I'm very interested again, it seems like a suspensful mindgame as much as an action shooter.

Thanks,

No, the stories of the first two are completely different. The third seems to follow suit. The only true similarities are the first and third and in tropical areas and the name. I would however recommend playing the previous Far Crys because they were great games.

Far Cry Instincts Predator is an excellent starting point. It has the first console FC and it's expansion. Technically, FC1 on PC is the only TRUE FC, but you're really not missing anything with that.

And like Tinythegiant said: There is no story connection between the games. Even the multiplayer is completely different between all 3. The only similarities are the general "choose your plan of attack" feel each game has and the absolutely amazing Map Editor that lets you make your own multiplayer maps.

As far as story goes, each game is a Far Cry from the previous installment. Hence the title. =)

All of the games are great so I highly recommend them, but you don't HAVE to play them to understand.
